Product description

This Limited Edition 50s Stratocaster features a lightweight alder body, handwound Tomatillo pickups and a maple neck with a compound radius and an offset "V"back-shape.

It features a Journeyman Relic Flashcoat Lacquer Finish that was sprayed "color over color", just like you very seldomly see on real vintage instruments. In the old days, if a custom color guitar was ordered, Fender often oversprayed an already finished guitar body without taking off the old paint first. Over the decades, during the aging process of the guitar, sometimes the old color became visible again.

For this Limited Edition 50s Strat, Fender has first finished the guitar body in the common fifties color Two-Tone Sunburst, and has afterwards oversprayed it in Faded and Aged Tahitian Coral, a slightly lighter version of beautiful custom color. Because of the light aging, the Sunburst layer is visible.

The neck has a vintage vibe at first glance as well, with its worn back and V-shape. However, while having a play you'll notice straightaway that is extra comfortable. This is because of the compound fretboard radius, a modern feature, ranging from a vintage correct 7.25" inches near the nut, to 9.5" higher up the neck which is slightly flatter.

Also, the back of the neck has a special shape: the V-shape is slightly offset, which makes the neck feel really smooth and comfortable when playing higher leads, while retaining that full vintage-style V-shape feeling while playing chords in lower positions.

The pickups are handwound Tomatillo Pickups. Tomatillo pickups are made using Alnico 2 magnets, simulating what an aged Alnico 5 pickup from the ‘50s would sound like now, slightly smoother in their response.

The half-blender wiring makes this guitar extra versatile, enabling you to blend in the neck pickup when positions 1 and 2 of the 5-way switch are selected. This means you can also select the bridge and neck pickups together, like on a Tele, or use all three pickups at the same time.
